Situation: exiting the corniche of Muttrah, at about 2 km (on road 1) , we must pass through the Muscat Gate which will lead us to the Old Muscat, containing museums and official buildings.
- Muscat Gate Museum: it was opened in 2000 and contains displays about Oman’s history from the Neolithic times to the present.
- Bait Al Zubair Museum: is a private museum, opened in 1998. It has a notable extensive collection of ancient weapons including khanjar, household equipment, costumes most of which are from the owner’s private collection. Outside of the museum, a large model shows a omani village with their falaj (traditional irrigation)
- The Al Alam Palace is the ceremonial palace of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos of Oman. The palace has a history of over 200 years, the existing palace, which has a facade of gold and blue, it was rebuilt as a royal residence. Visitors are not allowed inside the palace but they can visit it from outside.
- The National Museum: 13,000 m² modern museum oriented to know the history and cultural heritage of Oman through exhibitions and audiovisual contents.
